RECREATION & ENTERTAINMENT
Halifax has a well-established professional repertory theatre, Neptune, which continues to attract national and international actors and actresses. As well, it is the home of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. The Rebecca Cohn Auditorium of the Dalhousie Arts Center is the setting for frequent musical & theatrical performances of international caliber.
The metro area boasts some half dozen museums, while both public and private art galleries offer a wide selection of interesting art forms.
Naturally, boating and yachting are popular past times and it is no mistake that Nova Scotia has been nick-named "Canada's Ocean Playground." Fresh water canoeing and canoe racing have been major sports on Dartmouth lakes for decades, while there is ample opportunity in the area for golfing, tennis, swimming, skating, bowling, curling and many other sports. Horse riding instructions are available through facilities of Halifax's famous Bengal Lancers.
Both Halifax and Dartmouth are blessed with beautiful park areas. For example, Point Pleasant Park is 200 acres of beautiful pathways leading you through forests on one side and the wide expanse of the Atlantic ocean on the other. And the Public Gardens is a beautiful tranquil setting of 15 acres of cultivated flora, and located at the entrance to Spring Garden's wide array of shops, boutiques and restaurants.
Halifax & Dartmouth night life has shown considerable growth in recent years, with live entertainment being offered at more than two dozen establishments. There are numerous restaurants, catering to all tastes in fine cuisine and beverage rooms and lounges are located at all major meeting places. Many of these are located in scenic or interesting settings or overlooking the harbour.
